Question 1

When should a coffee roasting business transition from commercial (CAST) to industrial (IS-60 or IS-120) roasters?

Accepted Answer

The transition typically happens when monthly volume exceeds 10 to 15 tons (10,000–15,000 kg). While a commercial 30 kg roaster can produce up to 1 ton daily, it demands continuous manual loading, destoning, and cooling cycles. The IS Series provides full pneumatic conveyance, automated green bean silos, recipe-driven pneumatic gate sequencing, and automatic water quenching, cutting labor overhead by 70% while improving inter-batch consistency.

Question 2

How do RC-Tech industrial roasters ensure environmental compliance and odor/smoke abatement?

Accepted Answer

RC-Tech pairs IS-60 and IS-120 roasters with custom AFTB Series thermal and catalytic afterburners. Operating between 650°C and 820°C with heat-recovery heat exchangers, they achieve 99.5% destruction of particulate matter, VOCs, carbon monoxide, and roasting odor. Integrated cyclone separators extract 99% of chaff before the gas stream enters the incinerator, meeting stringent EU, EPA, and urban industrial zone air quality standards.

Question 3

What SCADA and PLC automation systems govern batch repeatability on the IS Series?

Accepted Answer

RC-Tech industrial roasters utilize industrial Siemens S7-1500 or Schneider Electric PLCs paired with 15-inch high-resolution IP65 touchscreens. The system governs burner modulation (0.1% resolution), airflow suction pressure, drum frequency inverter speeds, and pneumatic hopper gates. Roasters can operate in fully autonomous mode where pre-programmed temperature/RoR milestones trigger charge, gas ramp, air adjustments, discharge, and cooling timing without operator variation.

Question 4

What fire prevention and emergency safety systems are engineered into IS-60 and IS-120 plants?

Accepted Answer

Industrial roasting carries risks of chaff fires and exothermic runaway. RC-Tech integrates multi-point optical infrared ember detectors in cyclone exhaust lines, automated pneumatic water quench injectors inside the roasting drum and cyclone base, nitrogen purging injection ports, and independent fail-safe mechanical pressure relief valves that shut off the gas manifold in under 80 milliseconds upon power or draft failure.

Question 5

What utility infrastructure and building preparations are required for an IS industrial roaster installation?

Accepted Answer

IS-60 requires 380V–415V 3-phase power (approx. 18 kW connected load), 300 mbar natural gas / 1.5 bar LPG feed, and compressed air (6–8 bar, 250 L/min clean dry air) for pneumatic actuators. IS-120 requires 380V 3-phase (approx. 32 kW connected load) and compressed air (400 L/min). Minimum recommended floor clearance is 4.5 meters ceiling height, reinforced concrete pad (minimum 250 mm C30 concrete), and positive-draft double-walled insulated stainless exhaust chimneys.
