Designing an Ergonomic B2B Roasting Facility: From Green Bean Silos to Packaging
Key layout architecture principles for commercial specialty roasteries: HVAC negative pressure, clean in place (CIP), and safe chaff collection.
The Modern Roasting Plant Footprint
Setting up an efficient commercial coffee facility requires balancing raw green storage, machinery footprint, high-temperature thermal ducting, and finished packaging workflow.
1. Thermal Exhaust Duct Separation Never combine the chaff cyclone exhaust line with the cooling tray exhaust line. Chaff exhaust operates with high moisture and trace oils, whereas cooling air requires instant high-volume CFM discharge.
2. Negative Pressure Ventilation Maintain a negative air pressure differential of 15 to 25 Pascals inside the roasting hall to prevent volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and smoke aromatics from drifting into green coffee cupping and green bean holding areas.
3. Acoustic Dampening High-velocity cyclone blowers and destoners produce ambient sound between 72 and 82 dB. Mount centrifugal blowers on anti-vibration neoprene isolators and utilize silenced acoustic silencers on roof penetration stacks.
